Andy Park – Chair
Andy was born and raised in Parkdale and is son to Korean immigrants. Andy currently works in commercial real estate at a large downtown firm. Prior to that Andy held senior sales roles at global consumer packaged goods organizations. Andy is a Rotman Commerce graduate from the University of Toronto, and is a CPA CMA designation holder. He currently lives in Etobicoke with his wife and three daughters. Over the last few years Andy has developed an addiction to all things triathlon – swimming, biking, and running!!!
Selena Qi – Vice Chair
Selena was born in China and immigrated to Canada at the age of 8 with her parents. Selena graduated from York University with a Specialized Hon. BA degree in Public Administration & Law. She also has a Certificate in adjudication from the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators and a Diploma in Police Foundations from Seneca College. Selena has over 12 years of experience working in the federal public service sector. Aside from her professional obligations. Most recently, Selena left fulltime employment to further her education in Law at Osgoode Hall Law School. Selena is a proud single mother to her two beautiful children Kaitlyn and Kyle. In her spare time, Selena tries to balance her time between golf, teaching piano and Mandarin to adults and children.
Joanna Li – Secretary
Joanna came to Canada over 10 years ago to pursue her postgraduate study.She is currently a senior risk manager in a major Canadian bank. Prior to that she had extensive work experiences in the insurance industry.Joanna holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Toronto.Apart from work, Joanna enjoys travelling, acrylic painting and dancing.
Gerty Ryza – Director
Born in Belgium, Gerty immigrated to Canada at the young age of 4 with her parents and sister. Gerty is a proud single mother to her adult son, loving grandmother to her 18 year old grandson Alexander and a supportive mother in law. Gerty retired from working in the wholesale produce industry after 30 years, in 2015. Gerty now actively participates as a member and volunteers her time at LA Centre and has been on the board of directors since 2017.
Afzal (Al) Mohamdally – Director
Al was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. He immigrated to Toronto in August 1993. Prior to his retirement Al worked as a licenced mechanic for the TTC for over 23 years. Before his arrival to Canada, Al worked for Caterpillar back home where he learned and mastered the trade of large motors. He currently lives in West Toronto with his adoring wife Zaimeen. Al is the proud father of 2 children and 3 grandchildren. Al has volunteered for the centre for the past 2 years assisting with our food rescue program and joined the board in 2018.
Cristina Guian – Community Program Coordinator
Cristina was born in Barrie, ON and raised in Toronto. She is the youngest of 3 daughters to a Romanian father and German mother. Cristina is a Mom to 2 gorgeous daughters and a handsome golden retriever name Hershey! Cristina worked in the graphic design and print production field for 15 years before going back to school. She has a Holistic Nutrition Diploma from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and a Culinary Nutrition Management Diploma from George Brown College. Cristina is passionate about food security and has worked in the non-profit sector for the past 3 years championing food banks and community kitchens. On weekends she loves to spend time with her family, draw, binge watch Netflix and is ALWAYS listening and dancing to music while cooking!!
Malyun Haji – Community Kitchen & Program Worker
Malyun was born in Somali, but soon after moved to Toronto where she and her siblings were raised by their immigrant parents. Malyun has an adorable loving son and supportive family. Malyun holds a Bachelor of Health Studies from York University, and has extensive experience in both child and adult programming. She considers herself a “forever student”, eager to build on her academic foundations in health studies and her professional development. Her family and friends would describe her as friendly, an attentive listener, and an extremely competitive game player. Malyun enjoys meeting new people and finding ways to help them have an uplifting experience. Most importantly, Malyun loves to spend time with family, watching documentaries, reading and has a love for the outdoors. You can always find her out on an adventure with her son.
